clinton did this remarkably wem. and i think president obama is getting better. today he's meeting with 13 senators tonight at the jefferson hotel in washington. which maybe our conference helped move along. but it is tough -- i want to mention one other thing. it's tough because it's hard tore deal with the congress and sometimes it's unpless tonight deal with the congress. but there is no other choice, the president must engage. but one of the other issues i want to raise quickly is another factor, and charlie you talked about this a bit. in the days we were building this country, the space program and all these wonderful things it was easier to work together. let's look at the things they are dealing with today, sequester, how are we going to cut medicare, social security, how are we going to get the budget down. these are tough. these are politically difficult positions to take. in an environment where everything is just cutting and reducing, it's not natural for people to enjoy doing the job under those circumstances. they don't necessarily feel as positive towards each other

debt responsibly. you know, in 2010, president obama established the national commission on fiscal responsibility and reform commonly referred to as simpson-bowles. that bipartisan group came back with a report recommending approximately $4 trillion in deficit reduction over ten years from a balanced combination of spending cuts and new revenue. the report pointed out that this level of the deficit reduction is more than any effort in our nation's history. other bipartisan groups including domenici-rivlin and the senate's gang of six as well as economists across the spectrum agreed that $4 trillion over ten years was a reasonable and responsible goal. now, since that time, congress and the administration have worked together to reduce the deficit by $2.4 trillion, $1.8 trillion coming from spending cuts, $600 billion from allowing tax rates to rise on the wealthiest americans in the year-end deal. mr. president, the senate budget takes us the rest of the way to the $4 trillion goal and beyond. it builds on that $2.4 trillion in deficit reduction already done with an additional $1.8

health care in america. now the debate over obama care is over, we should start to think seriously of how to get america's health care costs under control. as it turns out a book and magazine story provide ways to think of this. the central debate between republicans and democrats is over whether the free market works well in health care. in a new book catastrophic care, they make the case arguing people need ito become consumers of health care so they, not insurance companies or the government, actually see, feel and pay the bill. that will force producers of health care, doctors and hospitals to push down prices and drive up quality. that's what happens with groceries, tv sets or computers. and basic surgery has seen a 90% drop in price and increase in quality since it was introduced in the '90s. that's what happens when consumers pay for a product. steven makes the opposite case in a recover story in "time" magazine. he painstakingly went through the actual bills that hospitals put out and found they charge massively for routine procedures and medicine. he found for example a routi

new debt over the next decade. since president obama took office four years ago, he has added more than $6 trillion to our national debt. for four years, he's run budget deficits over a trillion dollars each and every one of those four years. now senate democrats want to throw good money after bad and add another $7 trillion on top of that. the president has simply wasted too much of the american taxpayers' money. the american people have been stuck with an enormous bill, mr. president, as well as an anemic economy and economic growth which has been very slow. the american people think more than half of all washington spending is wasted and that democrats can't find a single dollar that they think should be saved. democrats actually want to increase washington spending by another $645 billion. this budget would spend $46 trillion over the next ten years. apparently president obama thinks that the only things that need to be cut from our budget are white house tours. well, republicans and the american people know that there is a lot more that we could be cutting. taxes are demanding

president obama visited the northeast. israel says it's ready for talks. israel must freeze settlement building on lands captured in 1967 before it will hold any talks. >>> there is a new report just out today that says bioterrorism labs around the country are not secure and the american people are at risk ktvu kyla campbell is in our washington, d.c. newsroom. kyla. >> reporter: the government accountability office released this report just minutes ago saying some of the nation's 350 bioterrorism labs which includes labs in california are not secure. the government accountability office found two main failures that says anthrax and other tools have been transferred to unauthorized facilities and say workers at multiple labs have expired security risk assessment ifsen the department of agricultural and centers for disease control are in charge of inspecting these labs. the usda has shot down many of the recommendations from the government accountability office. it says it over exaggerated risks at the labs and the cdc says it has redundant safety and security at these labs.
